New employment figures for Wyre Forest show the number of unemployed claimants is 77 higher than in January this year. This raises the total number of unemployed to 2,431 and represents 5% of the economically active population.

Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, is taking action on local unemployment. With recent announcements of job losses in Wyre Forest adding to an existing problem, Mark is organising a local jobs fair to be held in Kidderminster Town Hall.

Mark Garnier, Member of Parliament for Wyre Forest, has today expressed deep regret at the news that Sealine, the Kidderminster based luxury boats and yacht company, will be laying off staff. This announcement follows on from the news last week that there will also be jobs losses at Brintons Carpets.

Mark Garnier raised Wyre Forest’s infrastructure needs at the highest level, today, at a meeting with Norman Baker, Minister of State for Transport. Joined by Worcestershire County Council Leader Cllr Adrian Hardman, Mark met the minister at his department to push forward the case for new relief roads to be built in Stourport and Kidderminster.

Mark Garner, MP for Wyre Forest, has been making a strong case in Parliament for the need to tackle the problem of metal theft. Over the last week, Mark, who is vice chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Combating Metal Theft, has been meeting with interested local groups, speaking in debates and meeting Government ministers to deal with the issue.

Mark Garnier has joined with 105 other, cross party, MPs in writing to the Prime Minister urging a reduction in the amount of subsidy given to onshore wind.

Over 70 people turned up to the Working Men’s Club in Stourport last Thursday to meet representatives of Royal Mail. The meeting, set up by Wyre Forest’s MP, Mark Garnier, was a chance for locals to discuss the proposal to close the Stourport Delivery Office. Opinions from all sides were voiced and heard.

Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, welcomes the announcement by the Home Secretary that cash payments for scrap metal will be made illegal. In a written statement to MPs, Theresa May announced that the Government would lay an amendment to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill to do so.

Wyre Forest’s MP, Mark Garnier, together with fellow Conservative Richard Harrington, MP for Watford, today spoke up for small businesses and the self employed. Mark and Richard jointly called the debate, held in Westminster Hall, highlighting issues facing small business.

Mark Garnier, MP for Wyre Forest, met with David Cameron on Wednesday (18th January) to discuss the benefits of making financial education compulsory in the school curriculum. He was joined by fellow members of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Financial Education for Young People, which released a report on the subject in December.
